Design Life Magazine 2025
Overview
Design Life is the official annual magazine for the College of Design. For this project and with a small team, we were tasked with redesigning the entire magazine from the ground up in 2 months.
Goals
Create a clear design system that can be templatized, expand the accent typography and color palattes, and highlight process and creative thinking in the visual design.
Out with the Old
One glaring issue we found from our research on previous versions of Design Life was that the magazine felt like any other NC State magazine, and not one for a design school
From that point forward our became moto,
“Lets make this feel like it’s designed for designers by designers.”

Concept A: Crafted
This concept leans on the collage and handmade elements to show the thought process and embracing the unfinished look of design thinking.
Final Run.
Both concepts were presented to the Dean of the College of Design, Mark Hoversten, with grids being the chosen direction to move forward with. Below you will find the final, to print, designed magazine, enjoy.
Concept B: Grids
Grids breaks common design rules and literally displays the layout of the page itself. Our goal with this direction was to show process by revealing the actual guides that are hidden in the final product.
