Peer Mentor Program
Overview
Ran by Mulitcultural Student Affairs, the Peer Mentor Program aims to provide first-year students with a network of support through mentorship from upper-classmen. I was brought in to give this program a refresh to reflect how the program has transformed in recent years.
Growing as a Concept
One of the key learning outcomes for mentors in the program is serving as leaders and helping with developing incoming students.
I wanted to represent that idea through two people working together to grow one plant to symbolize the development of skills individually and jointly between the mentor and mentee.
The Reject
One thing that stood out to me in the objectives for the program is the idea that mentor is to be a big sibiling to the mentee and that the overall expereince should be that of heavy dialouge and communication between the two.
With that in mind I aimed to create an identity that represented communication between sibilings. The working name for this concept was “minion”, but was sadly rejected, I thought it was fun.
